Various collages made of celebrities by Sophie Stubbs, a postgraduate Fine Art student from Glasgow University. Sophie’s collage section “people” is quite funny and I like how she mixes the shape of the lips and the nose. The amusing and entertaining aspect was to spend some time trying to find out which people were hidding behind these collages. I’m not quite sure but from top to bottom I would have said: Lily Allen, Megan Fox?? (tricky with just the eyes to recognise) and Paris Hilton. What do you think? Sophie, if you ever read this post would you be able to give us the answer?
Although the people section is interesting, the abstract section is a bit too abstract in my view but I guess it never hurts to explore different horizons.
Astonishing variety of illustrations by Polish illustrator Grzegorz Domaradzki aka Gabz. From the first few clicks I had around his website, I thought Gabz’s illustrations were all dark and a tad frightening but he actually produces some really nice, inviting, colourful and friendly pieces. Gabz doesn’t seem to struggle in the slightest to change style and techniques. From Japanese tattoo style, dark and death illustrations to festive and colourful artworks, Gabz’s wide skills set seems to fit any subject…
I ran through my old CDs the other day and found Infinity Land by Biffy Clyro which I quite like (although their first album is by far the best but it’s not really the point here) and hadn’t listen to in ages. Whilst listening to it, I looked at the album cover that I’ve always found strangely and scarily attractive. I remember I had a massive poster of the CD cover in my house when I was a student and it was the “masterpiece” of our shared living room at the time. Anyway, I tried to find out a bit more about Chris Fleming, the artist behind the cover. Unfortunately, I couldn’t seem to find much more than what seems to be an old student portfolio still hosted on Glasgow University website. Chris’s illustrations that are up there are really interesting though. I dont know if he’s still doing illustration nowadays or if he adopted a pseudo but I can’t find more about him. I would really appreciate any input if you’ve ever heard about him or his work… Thanks
Oh my glory bee, this is brilliant. Excellent video created using After Effects by genious Esteban Diacono. Never heard of him before but certainly will keep an eye on his work… Superb!
Simply astonishing illustrations by French digital artistSerge Birault. I was just speechless in front of his latest pieces and impressed by the level of details, the control of the lights and the look and feel of the textures. I even like the small imperfections especially on his models breasts proportions and angles.
I wrote at the beginning of the month a post about Alison Carmichael and one of the poster she is selling on her website. In this post was also mentioned a similar work of another UK illustrator: Seb Lester. Well, that’s a sample of his work! Seb Lester is a London based graphic designer with a good deal of skills in typography and calligraphy and a strong passion for lettering. He’s been working on letterings for GQ Magazine, The New York Times and has been featured in different specialist mags like Computer Arts and Creative Review… I’m a bit gutted because Sebastian had an exhibition in Electrik Sheep (Newcastle art gallery) end of July and I didn’t go…
Unusual and very experimental digital paintings and other artworks by Karma Fritz. Unfortunately, I can’t find out if he has his own website but his flickr page shows quite a substential amount of interesting work and experiments…
Superb mixed media designs by Ricardo Juarez, a talented 19 years old freelancer. Ricardo’s digital art pieces are usually created using cinema 4D and Photoshop but he also experiments with illustrator, 3DS max, flash… Another versatile graphic designer with good skills…
I can’t really put my feelings into words, the best way is probably to simply describe what happened. I opened Nicholas Sheehy’s website, I straight away liked the thumbnails. I clicked on the thumbnails and then I loved his illustrations. Good enough an explanation? Seriously now, I like the fact it looks simple and neat but there is still a good deal of work on his illustrations (especially on the last one…). It’s a bit funky, funny, different, colourful. His illustrations look like it’s a mix of the technical drawing skills of an adult and the limitless creativity and sensibility of a child.
Surprising photographs by John Pascarelli who seems to be a versatile artist. As you can see on John’s website, he’s a photographer, a painter and a musician. His abstract photography section (redirecting to Flickr) is surprisingly interesting. I’m not a big fan of the colours and somehow the overall quality in his pictures but I like what he manages to catch in terms of textures, reflections, subjects, angles… There is often in his pictures a little something that makes my eye stop for a second to understand what’s happening…
