Graphic design and illustrations by German designer Kai Esselhorst. Kai’s portfolio is full of intricate, nicely laid out and well balanced designs and illustrations. His photography section is however a bit of a let down compared to his design skills and the rest of his work.
Mark Making
Kai Isselhorst - Graphic design
Frank Gonzales - Paintings
Excellent and unusual theme for a modern painter! The bird subject might appear as “old fashion” but the way Frank Gonzales creates his paintings has a really edgy and contemporary style to it! Love it! Apparently I’m not the only one as Frank’s artwork and talent seems to be recognised all over America and Europe…
Jennifer Wroblewski - Fine Art
Large scale drawings and illustrations by Jennifer Wroblewski based in New Jersey. Her work is based on mark making and the use of rythm and feelings to create the drawings. Jennifer mainly uses charcoal for her artworks. Her series new momuments to the anticoncept and large abstractions are my favourites although I quite enjoy the use of colours in new collaboration and the great sense of abstraction in her self portraits. Jennifer’s work reminds me slightly of Jose Parla’s art minus the calligraphy feel.
Mujuworld - Art & Design
Superb art and design work by Mr and Mrs Muju aka Mujuworld based in St Ives Cornwall, UK. Before moving there, Muju lived in Brighton where I guess they were (probably still are) quite friends with the people from Toy Life as you can see some of their artwork displayed in Toy Life’s shop (one of the picture above). Muju’s artwork is usually really colourful and fun whatever the medium used. They can work on wood, stakeboards, art toys, paper, create plushies… Their imagination doesn’t seem to have any boundaries. You can find some of Muju’s T-shirts on LaFraise and in particular this T-shirt that was released not too long ago. Funky stuff! Like it!
Florian Nicolle - Graphic design
Excellent work and especially illustrations by French graphic designer Florian Nicolle.
Marumiyan - Graphic design
Superb graphic design by Marumiyan aka Marumagraph currently living in Fukukoa, Japan. On the selection above, Marumiyan’s work looks kind of westernised but it often has Japanese influences… He has a large panel of work for CD covers, books and graphic works of all kind.
The Ninth House - Transitions
Excellent illustrations for this series entitled Transitions started in June 2009 by Luis Araujo founder of The Ninth House also called TNH. Luis, who also is the creative director of Creativestem and The Raster, is really involved in the art and design world as you can see through the number of design related projects he is working on.
Pomme Chan - Illustration - Typography
Superb illustrations by Pomme Chan aka Pomme Pomme originally from Bangkok but now living and working in London. Her illustrations are really fluid, organic and a good mix of different techniques from watercolour to vector graphics through acrylic paintings or pencil drawings. Not really surprising with such a unique style and varied skills to see Pomme Pomme having worked for GQ, La Perla, Southern Comfort, The Guardian, Nike…
