Hannah Campion - Fine art

Hannah Campion was exhibiting in the “Emerging Artists” section during the art fair. I had the luck and the pleasure to meet her in person and we had a very quick chat about her, her work and her cursus. She studied fine art at Loughborough University from 2000 to 2003. Hannah started exhibiting in the North East (South Shields) then a bit further away in a few group exhibitions in London. She travelled even further in the recent years with a solo exhibition in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in 2008.

Her artwork is generally colourful, intense and a bit unusual but it’s certainly what I like about it. She had a piece at the art fair that I can’t find on her website unfortunatly but it was astonishing. It was a metal panel with a black background and in the foreground some smoky, dreamy patterns, textures and shapes. It had tiny splashes of colours looking like the blurry images you see when you wake up from a dream and slowly open your eyes. The whole piece with the metal panel and extra varnish looked very shiny and vibrant! Loved it…

The only drawback is probably her website because it doesn’t showcase the true quality of her work, although I appreciate websites never replace the pleasure of viewing artworks in the flesh nor does it translate the impression you get from the real thing. All in all though, I was very impressed by Hannah’s artworks and her personality too.

Paresh Nrshinga - Abstract Art

By Stoffb, October 7th, 2009

Here is the artwork of another fine artist I’ve discovered during Newcastle Gateshead Art Fair last weekend. Paresh Nrshinga is specialising in abstract paintings and abstract art. Through his singular use of strong colour and personal techniques Paresh manages to bring a lot of strength, energy, balance and vibrance in his paintings which really captivated me during the exhibition. I guess I’m not the only one to love his work as Paresh is apparently one of the most collectable abstract artist in Britain and has been exhibited around the world from Paris to Florence, New York, Germany, UK, Italy

Ben Reche - Fine Art

I like the ink hand drawn illustrations from Ben Reche, a fine artist from England, but I don’t really enjoy the fractals style computerised collection he has. So back to the ones I like. The black & white illustrations are wonderful in my view, they have a kind of tribal tattoo style, religious background feeling and are intricate. It must have taken Ben flipping ages to draw them. I can easily imagine Ben’s collection “The windows of soul” being colourised and placed in a cathedral to replace usual stained glasses.

Joshua Barber - Illustrations

By Stoffb, September 8th, 2009

As it’s quite late (it’s actually tomorrow already) I won’t spend a lot of time explaining why I like the work of Joshua Barber. I was just flicking through different websites in my daily quest of the holy design grail, half-sleeping and Joshua’s illustrations woke me up (well, kind of…). The colours used, the childish style, and the dreamy blurry feeling his work provided me is putting me in a good mood for a good night of sleep… I visually like what Joshua does, but also the vision of his work that he explains here that is so brilliantly translated into illustrations. And suddenly my own “scattered playlist of seconds” is coming back at me…

Mary Thompson Art

By Stoffb, August 26th, 2009

Intriguing and fascinating pieces of art and illustrations by Mary Thompson who recently achieved a first class degree in fine art at University College Falmouth (UK). It seems Mary loves to play with different items, different materials, media, experiment, and expriment even more. The result is pretty random but how beautiful. Her pieces of artwork release so many good vibes and spirit.  I only have a tiny regret about her website; I wish it had more examples of her crazy “drawing machines” that seem so interesting…
