Excellent 2D animation by French artist Renaud Hallée. The animation is called Sonar and starts with the simple sound of a sonar and its visual representation. The sound is then slowly decomposed in multitudes of notes and geometric shapes to create a brilliantly simple and effective animation. The sequence has been officialy selected for Annecy’s Animation Festival.

The Sancho Plan

The Sancho Plan: an interactive electronic animation band? Don’t really know how to define what this north east based band do but watching the video above is probably the best way to understand what I mean. They and their work is really intriguing! Good news for me, they have a live performance in the Tyneside Cinema (Newcastle) on Thursday 24th September 2009. I hope it’s not sold out and that I’ll be able to make it there, I really want to see (and hear) that with my own eyes (and ears)… If I’m able to go and see them you’ll certainly hear from me again about their live performance…

James Houston covers Radiohead

This video is around a year old now but for those who saw it a year ago I’m pretty sure it still gives you goosebumps… Excellent tune by Radiohead covered with genius by a graduate of Glasgow School of Art James Houston. I’ve seen something similar made with just a scanner sometimes ago but it wasn’t anywhere close to this amazing masterpiece using an old scanner, a printer, a few old hard drives and a ZX spectrum. James’ work received over a million online views and apparently he even got the acclaim of Thom Yorke himself. He also got offered a record deal even though he’s not a musician. Brilliant!!!

Pony Pony Run Run - Hey You

Hey You! Excellent tune and video by a French band from Nantes Pony Pony Run Run for their new single Hey You. Pony Pony run run’s first album should be release anytime soon. The band members met whilst studying Art (Beaux Arts) so in a way creativity is their way of life. The song is really light and catchy, with an influence of British pop some would say and is absolutely spot on for the summer. The video was shot in Thailand. The tune stays in your mind all day long. Some might dislike that in a way but because it’s so light, fresh and groovy, it’s really enjoyable… Love it!
